Lost Dog: Have You Seen Kai?

It's every dog owner's worst nightmare. This new Newport Beach resident asks for your help in finding his lost dog, Kai.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Moving across the country is challenge, but for French Bulldog owner Todd Carnes, the move from Iowa to Newport Beach has become a nightmare.

Beloved black French Bulldog mix breed, Kai, went missing Jan. 28, the only family Carnes has in California, according to the Facebook group set up in his honor, organized by Jennifer Prause.

"He went missing from the Coronados at Newport, between 16th Street and Dover Drive between 10 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 28," she said.

Reunite Kai already has close to 100 followers all looking for the dog across Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.

"There have been several possible sightings," Prause said. "Kai could be any where by now, including with a good Samaritan that doesn't realize he is terribly missed."

The most recent sighting was on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, when he was possibly sighted at Country Club Drive and Jamaica Street in Costa Mesa around noon.

He was also possibly spotted on Feb. 8, on Westminster, running with a larger dog, though those reports are unverified according to Prause.

"If you spot Kai, do not chase him," they said.

"People came to hang 'Lost Dog' flyers over the weekend," the Facebook group stated. "While out hanging flyers, Todd and another volunteer actually helped capture a loose dog and helped it back home."

Orange County residents have rallied, sharing pictures of the beloved pup across social media.
