Major Injuries In Newport Beach DUI Collision, Police Say
A NB man jogging on West Coast Highway Sunday afternoon was struck by a car and sustained critical injuries, police say-Crash suspected DUI.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A jogger was struck by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon, and sustained critical injuries, Newport Beach Police said.
"On Sunday, June 11, 2017 at approximately 4:45 p.m. the Newport Beach Police Department was notified of a major injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on West Coast Highway east of 61st Street," Newport Beach Police Department Lieutenant Jay Short said.
A 37-year-old Newport Beach man was jogging westbound on the north sidewalk of West Coast Highway when he was struck by a black 2000 Toyota Celica that was travelling westbound on West Coast Highway, Short said in release.

"The preliminary investigation indicates the Toyota Celica lost control, drove onto the sidewalk, and struck the pedestrian," Short said.
The jogger sustained critical injuries as a result of the collision.

A female passenger in the Celica also sustained critical injuries, Short indicated.
"Both the male pedestrian and the female passenger were transported to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana for treatment," Short said. "The driver of the Toyota Celica, Joshua Baird, a 22-year-old Buena Park resident, sustained minor injuries in the collision and was treated at the scene by NBFD Paramedics."
Baird was then arrested at the scene by NBPD Officers on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence according to Short.
