Major Injury Collision in Newport Sends 92-Year-Old Cyclist to Hospital
A 92-year-old Newport Beach resident was cycling when he was struck by a Mazda on Balboa and 7th.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A 92-year-old man suffered major injuries when a Mazda collided with his bike on Monday according to the Newport Beach Police Department.
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Oct. 17, the Newport Beach Police Department’s Dispatch Center was notified of a traffic collision at the intersection of W. Balboa Boulevard and 7th Street. Newport Beach Police Department information officer Jennifer Manzella said.
"The collision involved a bicyclist who had been traveling northbound on 7th Street and a white Mazda hatchback which had been traveling westbound on W. Balboa Boulevard," she said.

The driver of the Mazda was not injured, but the bicyclist, a 92-year-old resident of Newport Beach, suffered major injuries as a result of the collision.
"Newport Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported him to Orange County Global Medical Center for medical attention and evaluation," she said.

Initial investigation indicates that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be contributing factors in this incident.
