Man Armed With Knife Damages Newport Beach Business, Police Say

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A man armed with a knife was arrested in Newport Beach Thursday morning, authorities said.

Police officers were dispatched at around 8:40 a.m. to a business located in the 400 block of Newport Center Drive in response to reports of a man waving around a knife and damaging property inside a local business, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

Upon arriving, officers set up a perimeter and began evacuating people from the area before starting negotiations with the suspect.

The situation was de-escalated by officers and the man was taken into custody. His identity was not released, nor were any charges that he may face.

No injuries were reported and no further information was available.
