Man Charged In Crash That 'Seriously Injured' Motorcyclist In OC
The Los Angeles man pleaded guilty to the hit-and-run crash that injured a motorcyclist in Newport Beach last year.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A 47-year-old Cudahy man pleaded guilty Thursday and was immediately sentenced to two years behind bars for a hit-and-run collision that injured a motorcyclist in Newport Beach last year.
Nery Leonardo Lopez pleaded guilty to a felony count of failing to stop at a hit-and-run collision with injury, according to court records. As part of the plea deal, four counts of hit-and-run with property damage and a count of driving without a valid driver's license, all misdemeanors, were dismissed along with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury.
The collision occurred about 8:15 p.m. July 30, 2022, around West Balboa Boulevard and 26th Street, police said. Lopez, who was behind the wheel of a Jeep, struck the motorcyclist, who was seriously injured, police said.

Lopez ran away from the scene and police impounded the Jeep. Lopez was arrested April 14 in Los Angeles County.
