Man Critically Injured in 30-Foot Fall at Pirate's Cove Beach

A man slipped while taking pictures at Pirate's Cove, falling 30-feet down.

CORONA DEL MAR, CA A man is in critical condition today after falling down a 30-foot cliff at Pirate’s Cove Beach early Tuesday morning.

Newport Beach police and firefighters got the call for help Tuesday morning from a woman who witnessed her companion’s fall, said Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.

“There was a couple out on the rocks around 4:30 a.m. apparently taking pictures, and the gentleman lost his footing and fell over a 30-foot embankment,” said Newport Beach Fire Department Justin Carr.

The man was seriously injured and rescuers were concerned about further risk by carrying him up over the rocks, said Carr.

Instead, they called for the Orange County Harbor Patrol boat to help.

“We waded into the water and transported him to the boat,” said Carr.

He was transported to a trauma center in critical condition, Carr said.
