Man Critically Injured in Newport Boulevard HIt-and-Run
Police are asking for help finding the driver of blue SUV who struck a 26-year-old man without stopping to render aid.

A 26-year-old man was critically injured at Newport Boulevard today by a hit-and-run motorist, who drove an SUV.
The crash occurred at 4:53 a.m. at the intersection of Newport Boulevard and Broadway, according to Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott.
Traffic was snarled at the southern end of the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway for several hours, as police investigated.

The victim was only publicly identified as a resident of Lake Forest.
He attempted to cross the busy road outside the crosswalk when he was struck by a blue small SUV, possibly a Isuzu Amigo. The SUV was driven south on Newport Boulevard without the driver stopping and rendering aid, Scott said.

Paramedics rushed the pedestrian, in critical condition, to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana with leg and facial injuries, he said.
Police believe the SUV sustained moderate front-passenger side damage.
