Man Drops From Overpass, Shuts Down 55 Freeway In Costa Mesa: Report

Witnesses reportedly saw the man scaling the fence on the overpass before letting go and falling on Thursday, authorities say.

COSTA MESA, CA — All southbound lanes on the 55 Freeway traveling through Costa Mesa were reopened around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, after a man dropped from an overpass and into traffic, the Orange County Register reported.

California Highway Patrol officer Ken Yoon told the OC Register that the fatality was reported around noon, after the man dropped from the Fair Drive overpass and was struck by at least one vehicle.

Yoon told the register that the man, a 30-year-old Anaheim resident, was seen scaling the fence on the overpass before letting go and falling.
