Waking up with the waves on Monday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report. Well, if you like the smaller stuff, then get out there and grab a few, but if you're looking for some size, then don't put paddling at the top of your to-do list!
We're seeing some semi-clean conditions, with some spots seeing some texture on it already. We've got a mix of leftover south swell and some minor northwest energy in the water.
That recipe is providing some kinda soft sectiony lines, with a few fast corners, but things should improve a little once that tide drops. Most Newport Beach spots are running about knee- to waist-high, with the focal points pulling a few belly-high sets.

Taking a look at those tides...at 6:02 this morning it climbed up to a 4.5 high which will have some spots pretty slow early on. The tide then drops to a 0.0 low at 1:03 this afternoon.
If you're planning on paddling, throw on at least that 3/2 fullsuit and maybe the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 57 degrees. Good luck out there!

FYI: The County Health Department encourages surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after a rain due to the possibility of elevated bacteria levels especially near river mouths, storm drains and harbor entrances.
