Waking up with the waves on Monday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report. Well, the surf has backed down quite a bit, considering how much size we had out there a few days ago, but there's much more shape today.
We're seeing some fairly clean conditions, with some texture on it, but it's possible we'll see those southerly winds increase at some point during the morning hours. Taking a look at the waves...there's more of a combination of energy out there. We have some leftover south swell and some small northwest windswell in the mix.
That recipe is providing some fast and somewhat broken-up lines, with some nice wedgy shoulders to snag. Most Newport Beach spots are running about waist to chest-high, with the top spots pulling shoulder-high waves, with maybe a few larger sets.

At 9:08 this morning the tide drops to a 0.3 low which will have many spots lacking water and a little on the inconsistent side mid-morning. The tide then pushes back up to a 4.0 high at 4:21 this afternoon.
If you're planning on paddling, then you'll want to wear at least a 3/2 fullsuit, with the water temperature hanging on the cool side and averaging between 57 and 59 degrees. See ya in the water!
