Newport Beach Domestic Violence Call Leads To Deadly Officer Involved Shooting
Newport Beach Police Officers responding to a domestic violence call used deadly force, according to Police.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A 61st Street knife-wielding suspect led Newport Beach police officers to use deadly force that department said.
On Sunday, at just before 9:15 p.m., Newport Beach Police Department officers responded to the scene on the 200 block of 61st Street, and an in-progress domestic violence incident. The suspect, armed with a knife, approached an officer was shot and killed by police Newport Beach police Sergeant Ryan Peters said.
The officer made contact with the suspect, who was outside on the sidewalk and armed with a knife, Peters said.

"Although (the suspect was) initially compliant with the officer's orders to drop the weapon, (he) re-armed himself with the knife seconds later," he said. "The suspect then exhibited threatening actions towards the officer. Fearing for his safety and the safety of others, the officer fired at the suspect."
Paramedics rushed the suspect to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he later died from his gunshot wound, he said.

"Fire department personnel also treated the victim of the domestic violence incident at the scene, before transporting her to a local hospital for additional treatment," Peters said. "No officers were injured during the incident."
The type of injuries sustained by the victim of domestic violence that incited the call were not known as of this report. The Newport Beach police asked anyone with any information regarding the incident to call them at (949) 644-3797.
