Newport Beach Fatal Shooting, Suspect In Custody

One man is arrested after shooting another in Newport Beach overnight, police say.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A Newport Beach neighborhood was rocked overnight after a deadly shooting at home on Orchid Street, police say.

According to Newport Beach Police spokeswoman Heather Rangel, officers arrived at the 2000 block of Orchid Street at 8 p.m. Thursday after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.

Inside the home, a man was found dead due to a shooting, according to Rangel.

The victim's name has not yet been released as of this report.

Officers arrested Rodney James Hartzel, 57, of Irvine, in connection with the shooting. It is not known if he and the victim knew each other.
