The September statistics are in, and with almost one-million visitors to Newport Beach in September, Lifeguards were busy all month long.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — In Newport Beach, lifeguards have a long memory. When it comes to heroes like Ben Carson, a lifeguard who gave his own life to save another, now memorialized near the Newport Beach main lifeguard tower, perhaps it is that constant reminder that enables the lifeguards to keep things real.

Statistics for Ocean Lifeguards in Newport Beach were released on Oct. 1, and include:

  • Ocean rescues: 273
  • Preventative Actions: 5,496
  • Medical Calls: 204
  • Boat Warnings: 57
  • Rock Warnings: 102
  • Beach Population: 963,000
  • The complete story, when half the month of Sept. saw days at over 4-feet, lifeguards were definitely busy.
