NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The Newport Beach Police Department just lost one of their own, after the Mounted Enforcement Unit announced the passing of Police Mount Bullseye Wednesday.

The horse started his service with the NBPD Mounted Enforcement Unit in 2017 and made significant impact through his involvement in various community events, police said.

Bullseye attended numerous community events, including: National Night Outs, Fashion Island Holiday Patrols and 4th of July Patrols.

"Before joining the NBPD, Bullseye worked on a ranch in Arizona and played a role in guiding racehorses to the starting gate," an NBPD statement read. "Those who had the pleasure of meeting Bullseye were often greeted with his big head in search of food or treats."

The horse retired from active duty shortly after attending the 2024 Rose Parade earlier this year, and lived out the remainder of his retirement in a large pasture surrounded by other horses — though he still found ways of getting into trouble, police said.
