Newport Beach Public Library Celebrates National Library Week April 19-25
Newport Beach Public Library will join libraries around the country to celebrate National Library Week, April 19-25.
Newport Beach Public Library will join libraries around the country to celebrate National Library Week, April 19-25. The theme this year was originally announced as “Find Your Place at the Library,” drawing attention to the wide variety of free resources, services, and special programming provided for the community. The theme still works - even when the building is closed - although the alternate version, “Find the Library at Your Place,” seems to be even more appropriate in light of today’s circumstances.
Newport Beach Public Library is making a special effort to bring the library to you during this Shelter-in-Place period. There is something for everyone, every age and every interest available through the Library’s eBranch at newportbeachlibrary.org, including downloadable books, magazines, streaming video, language learning programs. online classes, genealogy research, student resources and a whole array of distance learning opportunities. Curbside Service is making it easy and safe for customers to pick up books and other library materials that have been placed on hold and the Reference staff is ready and waiting to answer questions online or by phone.

While most of the original programs planned for the week have been canceled, several new activities have been scheduled that can be accessed remotely. In celebration of National Library Week, local City leaders and Library staff will host video storytimes, sharing their love of reading and books. Other fun activities for children include an online Poetry Party and Scavenger Hunt. Children win prizes sharing their poetry with the community online and scavenging the NewportKids.com website.
Looking for an interesting program to watch? Newport Beach Public Library has lots to choose from, including author talks, medical lectures, concerts and more. As a special treat, the Library is making the video of the author talk with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar available for viewing.
