Newport's Beaches See 425,000 Visitors Over Holiday Weekend

It was a busy weekend for Newport Beach fire personnel and lifeguards with, according to the Fire Department, some 425,000 people visiting beach areas in the city between Friday and Monday.

Fire personnel handled 157 calls between over the weekend, according to a Fire Department release. Of those, 105 were for medical assistance.

Firefighters responded to three fires over the weekend, according to the release. Two were caused by food left on stoves, one on Balboa Boulevard and another on Irvine Avenue. The third was for a dumpster fire on Back Bay Drive. No injuries or significant damage resulted from the fires, the release said.
