Newport's Fashion Island Menorah Lighting Wednesday

Join the "Orange Jews" for the Festival of Lights, celebrated at Fashion Island

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The Festival of Lights - for many, brings back fond memories of childhood years, and serves to renew our sense of identity. The Chanukah lights provide us with warmth, joy, strength and inspiration. Such is a purpose of a community-wide Menorah lighting celebration.

Fashion Island joins Chabad Center for Jewish Life in inviting the entire community to celebrate the Festival of Lights at a public Menorah Lighting ceremony on Wednesday, December 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Fashion Island’s Atrium Garden Court, The Largest such event in Orange County.
The celebration begins with holiday musical performance by a group of young special needs children from the Friendship Circle.

The community will honor author and Holocaust Survivor, Sam Silberberg with the lighting of the huge Menorah. Sam, who as a young boy survived two Nazi concentration camps, and made a daring escape from a Nazi “Death March."
Participants will enjoy holiday gifts and treats, Chanukah crafts, face painting and balloon animals. Participants are encouraged to bring along a gift for the community toy drive and distribution to underprivileged children, making these deserving children’s holiday that much brighter.

Chanukah, a celebration for all time, is highlighted by the kindling of the Menorah each night of the Holiday.

“It is a holiday that enriches our lives and strengthens our tradition," said Rabbi Reuven Mintz of the Chabad Center for Jewish Life. “In ancient times, our ancestors rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem. Today, we rededicate ourselves to making this world a better and brighter place. Chanukah also transmits the universal message that ultimately good will prevail over evil, freedom over oppression and light over darkness.”

Performances by: Friendship Circle Special needs children Choir and the “Orange Jews” group.
