OCFA Board Votes Unanimously for Canyon 1, 2 Independent Review

OCFA Board Votes Unanimously Tonight for Canyon Fire 2 Independent Review; Board Applauds OCFA Firefighters for Work During Canyon Fire 2

(IRVINE) - The Orange County Fire Authority Board of Directors just voted unanimously in support of OCFA Interim Fire Chief Patrick McIntosh’s s recommendation tonight to the 25-Member OCFA Board of Directors that they retain an independent review panel for the Canyon Fires that occurred in late September, early October.

Shawn Nelson, Fourth District Supervisor for the Orange County Board of Supervisor’s wrote an October 26th Memorandum regarding the “OCFA Board Meeting On October 26, 2017” addressed to Mayor Beth Swift, Chairwoman OCFA, Supervisor Lisa Bartlett, Board Member OCFA and Supervisor Todd Spitzer, Board Member OCFA.

“I want to express my support for your potential direction tonight to retain an independent review panel on the Canyon Fire 2,” wrote Nelson.

He continued in his memorandum,

“In keeping with transparency, and a desire to learn all pertinent facts:

The Board assures all OCFA employees that if they are contacted by anyone investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the events of and response to the Canyon Fire 2, they are free to and encouraged to cooperate fully without fear their cooperation will be used as a basis for any employment action.”

Tonight’s OCFA Executive Committee Regular Meeting” began promptly at 5:30 P.M., and is an open board meeting for the public.

The Board voted unanimously in support of the independent review.

The meeting took place at OCFA Headquarters, Regional Fire Operations and Training Center Board Room, 1 Fire Authority Road, Irvine, CA.

Regular meetings of the Board of Directors are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, at 6:00 p.m. in Board Meeting Room.
