PCH Crash Causes Newport Beach Labor Day Traffic Nightmare
Newport Beach Police closed a section of Pacific Coast Highway after a car rockets off the bridge & flipped, almost going into the water.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A large section of Pacific Coast Highway at Bayside Drive was closed Labor Day evening after a crash sent one person to the hospital, police say.
On Monday at just after 5 p.m., Newport Beach Police and Fire responded to Pacific Coast Highway at Bayside Drive where a major injury crash occurred, police say. A single car crashed into a light pole, then flew off of PCH and tumbled down the embankment, Newport Beach Police spokeswoman Heather Rangel said.
A portion of PCH was closed from Bayside Drive to Dover Drive until almost midnight.

A silver sedan went over the side by the bridge and landed on its roof. The driver, the sole occupant of that car, was extracted and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital in unknown condition, according to Rangel.
The eastbound lanes on PCH from Dover to Bayside reopened at 7 p.m. though the westbound lanes remained closed until almost midnight.

Nasty crash in Newport Beach with a very lucky driver PCH North just before the bay, car hit a light pole, flipped over and went down an embankment. Hearing the driver is OK but a few feet more and they would have been upside down in the water @CBSLA pic.twitter.com/HYnkrgdB1e
