NEWPORT BEACH, CA —Police asked for the public's help in tracking down a hit-and-run driver who injured a pedestrian last month.

On Dec. 28, a collision happened just before 8 p.m. at Superior Avenue and Hospital Road.

The 33-year-old victim was struck by a northbound SUV on Superior Avenue, while he was walking east across the intersection on Hospital Road.

He was in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, and is still in recovery from "major injuries," said Newport Beach police Sgt. Peter Carpentieri.

The vehicle was described as a small SUV that is red or maroon, possibly an early 2000s model Land Rover Freelander that sustained damage to the right side.
