Police Conduct Operation Targeting Cashiers Who Sell Alcohol To Minors
Detectives from the Newport Beach Police Department carried out the operation last month at several local businesses.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Detectives from the Newport Beach Police Department targeted cashiers who sell alcohol to minors during a Minor Decoy operation that was carried out last month, the department announced Thursday.
The operation involved adult decoys who enter a place of business and attempt to purchase alcohol "under the direction supervision of law enforcement officers," the department said in a statement.
The decoys attempted to buy alcohol from twelve businesses in Newport Beach, the department said.

Twelve businesses in total were included in the operation and eleven did not sell alcohol to underage decoys, police said. The businesses include: Dory Deli, Baja Sharkeez, Cabo Cantina, Bal Harbor Liquor, Fry's Market, Chihuahua Cerveza Taproom, The Stag Bar, Lombardy's Market and Deli, Sportsman's Liquor, Chipotle and Balport Liquor.
According to police, Azar's Gourmet Pizza at 309 Palm Street sold alcohol to the underage decoy.

"Those who sell alcoholic beverages to minors may face a fine of up to $1,000 and/or 24-32 hours of community service for a first violation," the NBPD said. "In addition, ABC will take administration action against the alcoholic beverage license belonging to businesses where the sale to minors occurred."
