Police Kill Homicide Suspect In Newport Beach: Authorities
Police say the suspect was trying to flee police.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Police fatally shot a homicide suspect Saturday morning in Newport Beach, authorities said.
Before the shooting, Santa Ana officers found the suspect elsewhere and tried to arrest him, which initiated a chase, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
The pursuit ended in Newport Beach, where law enforcement shot the suspect, the SAPD said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting happened after the suspect drove onto Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, according to CBS Los Angeles.
No officers were hurt.

Police have not released the suspect's identity or any details around the alleged homicide as of this writing. It's also unclear where the police chase began.
The pier is closed because of officer activity, the Newport Beach Police Department said at 7:17 a.m. Saturday.
"There is no threat to the public," the NBPD said. "Please avoid the area."
