Amy Nagy, principal at Newport Elementary School, received her doctorate in education in January. Nagy has worked in education for two decades as a counselor, teacher, curriculum coordinator and a principal.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, her teaching certificate from the University of Michigan and her master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University.
Nagy became the principal of Newport Elementary in 2004, when her family relocated from Michigan to Southern California.

Lincoln Elementary Jog-A-Thon
Lincoln Elementary will hold a school-wide jog-a-thon on Feb. 15. Run times go by grade level, from approximately 8 a.m. to noon, with breaks and times for photo opportunities between each grade’s run. The event will include music and prizes. All runners must have a signed waiver to participate. Proceeds will go to the school’s technology program. Parents are invited to cheer on their runners. Father-Son Basketball
Corona del Mar Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade Father-Son Basketball Night is slated for March 18 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the school's gym. Participants—who also can be father figures, such as grandfathers and uncles—are asked to wear athletic shoes. T-shirts, prizes and a pizza dinner are included in the $15 per person cost. Buy Schools Sheet Music
Newport-Mesa Unified is asking people to adopt a song by donating money to buy sheet music for student music programs. Donations can be sent to the N-MUSD district office, 2985 Bear Street, Costa Mesa 92626, attention: Bonnie Swann. Checks should be made payable to Newport-Mesa Unified School District with “Adopt-A-Song” in the memo line.
