Rabid Bat Found At This Central OC Park
The body of a rabid bat was discovered at an Orange County park on Beech Tree Lane. Did you or anyone you know touch the creature?

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A bat found at an Orange County park tested positive for rabies, Orange County health officials said Wednesday. Anyone who may have touched the bat on Saturday at the University Community Park at 1 Beech Tree Lane in Irvine was asked to come forward to be checked and treated.
"The bat was found around noon Saturday at the community park," Jennifer Good, spokesperson for the OC Health Care Agency said.
Health officials asked that if you or someone you know had physical contact with the bat, or who saw anyone else come into contact with it, to contact the Health Care Agency at (714) 834-8180, or after-hours, (714) 834-7792.

"Rabies is transmitted to humans through a bite by an infected animal," Good explained in a release. "Bats have very small teeth and their bites can potentially go unnoticed."
Since rabies is almost always fatal if it is left untreated, preventive treatment is always administered to people who may have been exposed.
