Reality Show Doctor And Girlfriend Accused in 12 More Rapes

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — More evidence in the serial rape case against a Bravo reality show orthopedic surgeon and his girlfriend is mounting, the Orange County District Attorney announced Friday. Twelve additional victims have come forward since the prosecutors announced the arrests Tuesday, prosecutors announced.

Investigators followed more than 50 new leads over the last 72 hours, finding 12 additional, "credible potential victims" of Newport Beach doctor Grant Robicheaux and his girlfriend, Cerissa Riley, prosecutors said, adding that much work will need to be done to see if additional charges will be filed.

The doctor, who appeared on a Bravo Reality Dating Show "Online Dating ant the American Male," and his girlfriend are both free now, out on $100,000 bond and working to plead their case even as the DA has expanded his search across the state of California, and nationwide. In their research, they learned that Robicheaux and Riley "used dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble in locating their victims," OCDA Tony Rackauckas said in a press conference on Friday.

"Ladies, please be careful when you meet people on these (dating) apps. You don't know what's behind a seemingly perfect smile," he said.

Of the additional victims who have come forward this week, one has alleged that she was victimized in Las Vegas and another alleged her encounter with the physician occurred in Manhattan, where Robicheaux studied at New York University Hospital. Those reports remain to be verified, and as of yet no additional charges have been filed.

Thus far, Robicheaux and Riley have been charged with two separate rapes — both in Newport Beach.

The Newport Beach Police Department began researching these allegations in 2016, according to Rackauckas, however it wasn't until a DNA result that "caused us to be aware that this case existed." NBPD served a warrant in January of 2018, and have been working to bring the case since then.

Terabytes of evidence exist that need to be reviewed, Rackauckas said Friday, much of it video from Robicheaux's cellphone. In the press conference, Rackauckas made a plea to any additional victims, "even if you made a conscious decision to drink or party with this couple, no one gets a pass to have their way with you when you are unconscious or past the point of consent."

The Newport Beach Police Department and prosecutors are working together to obtain statements from woman who may have been assaulted by the pair. Still, social stigma may be keeping some potential victims from coming forward, Rackauckas expressed.

"If you went out and partied (with them), even had a good time and a few drinks, once you were past the point of consent or are unconscious, no one has the right to use you in such a way," he said. "There is nothing at all to be ashamed of. It is important to bring the information forward so that we can bring these people to justice."

In a statement through their attorneys, Robicheaux and Riley have denied all "non-consensual sex allegations since their initial arrest.

"(Robicheaux and Riley) have been aware of these accusations for a number of months, and each of them will formally deny the truth of these allegations at their first opportunity in court," their attorneys Philip Cohen and Scott Borthwick said. "(They) believe that such allegations do a disservice to, and dangerously undermine, the true victims of sexual assault, and they are eager to have the proper spotlight shed on this case in a public trial... It must be noted that none of the allegations in this matter relate to or concern Dr. Robicheaux’s medical practice or patients in any way."

As for the potential victims, their identities and privacy will be safeguarded during the investigation and Rackauckas said.

"We also ask the public to allow victims to go through the judicial process with dignity," hed added.

Robicheaux was employed as a surgeon at NewportCare Medical Group but was been removed from the company's website on Tuesday. Riley is an aspiring educator who worked occasionally as a substitute teacher in Fullerton, Senior Deputy District Attorney Michael Carroll said.

Newport Beach police submitted the results of their investigation to prosecutors Sept. 6, and the defendants were arrested Sept. 12. They are both expected to be arraigned Oct. 25 at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
