Remembering An Icon In OC: Candlelight Vigil For Dolly Parton Set

Local residents planned the vigil after news of the superstar's death rocked the country Tuesday.

COSTA MESA, CA — The Orange County community is mourning a global superstar who shaped music, media and more beyond her 80 years.

To commemorate Dolly Parton's life and legacy, a candlelight vigil will take place in Costa Mesa at a massive mural located in town.

The mural, spanning 19-feet by 52-feet, was created in 2021 by Long Beach artist David Gilmore on the wall outside the former Strut Bar & Club in Costa Mesa, according to CBS news.

Parton died on Tuesday, her nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver, confirmed her passing in a video posted on her Instagram account.

“She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history,” Seaver said in the video. "She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD and on your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family, whether you liked it or not.”

The vigil takes place on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the site of the mural on Pomona and 19th Street.
