Cypress, CA--Confusion at a cooking class at Cypress College School of Continuing Education may have been a factor in the initial disappearance of a Huntington Beach woman.

A 23- year-old woman--Mireya Rodriguez Trujillo of Huntington Beach--was last seen Tuesday morning leaving the school after a misunderstanding with paperwork, and has not been seen since.

"She traveled to the school by bus from Huntington Beach for the first day of cooking class. Upon arrival, she had two pieces of paper regarding her school, the admissions slip and a counselor appointment form for August," Cypress Police Department Sgt. Dean Pinvidic said. "Apparently, she showed the counselor appointment slip and was told her date wasn't until August. At that time she left the school--possibly thinking her class was cancelled."

Whether she got on again to leave the campus, is unknown at this time. Cypress PD has requested surveillance video from Orange County Transportation Authority buses.

"Detectives will receive that video feed shortly," Sgt. Dean Pinvidic said in interview. "It is our hope that the bus footage will give us clues on when or whether she did get on and off of the bus."

Trujillo's family has been scouring the area, passing out flyers and going door to door in search efforts. The Cypress Police Department has done grid searches, searched the area with blood hounds and heat vision.

"Once we receive the bus video, as well as surveillance from surrounding businesses and the college surveillance of her at the school, we will know more," he said.

Surveillance video from the college shows her leaving campus at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Pinvidic said.

“We've walked all of those apartment complexes in the area, pulling surveillance video, and so far we're striking out,'' Pinvidic said.

According to her family, Trujillo is “very shy'' and unlikely to seek help, he said. She was not carrying a credit card or cell phone, but did have two one-day bus passes.

“We're blanketing the area with fliers and we have a whole volunteer crew out there knocking on doors and checking area motels,'' Pinvidic said.

Trujillo is 5-foot-2 and weighs 133 pounds. She has brown hair and eyes and was last seen wearing a white shirt with a blue, flower print, blue jeans and orange tennis shoes, Pinvidic said.
