Bicycle Fatality On Laguna Canyon Road Claims Life Of Newport Man

LAKE FOREST, CA — A Newport Beach man died Tuesday morning following a collision that occurred while riding his bicycle southbound on Laguna Canyon Road near Lake Forest Drive at approximately 10 a.m.

The 78-year-old man was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. near the intersection of State Route 133 and Lake Forest Drive, according to California Highway Patrol.

The Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene Tuesday morning, Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

"One adult male was transported to a local hospital in serious condition," Concialdi said. Irvine Police Department was also on scene of the collision, responding at just before 10 a.m.

"Based upon the preliminary investigation it appears the man was riding his bicycle southbound on Laguna Canyon Road and struck the rear of a vehicle that was parked in the shoulder of the roadway," Irvine Police Lt. Dave Klug said. "The victim was wearing a helmet."

The name of the victim was not yet released as of this report.
