Sea Queens Place Second in Foothill Fall Fling

In a tournament that promises to be a preview of a balanced 2011-2012 CIF season in Division I girls water polo, the Sea Queens advanced to the Championship game before falling to Foothill High School.

The CDM Girls Water Polo Team finished second in the annual Foothill Fall Fling last weekend.

In a tournament that promises to be a preview of a balanced 2011-2012 CIF season in Division I girls water polo, the Sea Queens advanced to the Championship game before falling to Foothill HS, 6-5, on a goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation.

CDM had previously beaten Foothill 11-10 in the Championship game of the summer California High School State tournament this past July. On Saturday CDM defeated Los Osos, Santa Margarita and Agoura high schools to top the bracket play. On Sunday CDM defeated Newport, 9-6, in the quarterfinals and Laguna Beach, 10-5, in the semi-final game to reach the Championship game Sunday night. CDM took a 3-1 lead in the first period. Foothill stormed back for a 4-3 lead in the 3rd. CDM recaptured the lead 5-4 in the 4th period before Foothill scored on a penalty shot in the waning moments to win the game, 6-5.

CDM was led by Seniors; Pippa Saunders, Diana Murphy, Victoria Pierotti and Alex Musselman and Juniors; Cassidy Papa, Ally McCormick, Morgan Stewart, Caitlin Brandenberger, Gen Weed and Erica Weed. Also contributing to victories throughout the weekend were Sophomores, Annie Mortimer, Avery Warwick, Bobbi Hoose, Marina Coskinas and Kampbell Gritsch and Freshman Eliza Britt.
