
A “Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run” reception will be held in the Newport Beach Civic Center’s Community Roomat noon to welcome law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes during their last days carrying the Official Olympic torch.
The world games are set to begin in Los Angeles on July 25.
The ceremony will include a brief presentation from police Chief Jay R. Johnson and speeches from two members of the Final Leg team, Sgt. Mike Still of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety and Dale Smit, a 30-year-old Special Olympics athlete from New Zealand.
