Storm Clean-Up Underway In Newport Beach After Winter Rain

City crews are hard at work cleaning Newport's beaches after a large storm surge caused high volumes of trash to show up on the shores.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Newport Beach city crews were hard at work after this week's storm knocked over two trees and created a large storm surge on the city's beaches.

According to a city news released, cleanup crews will address the high volumes of trash and driftwood that have washed ashore between the river jetty and 20th street.

The inundation of trash was caused by this week's storm, and Newport Beach Public Works staff estimates that about 180 cubic yards of trash will be collected and removed promptly.

"Following the removal of large debris, a beach comber will collect smaller, leftover debris," Newport Beach City Manager Grace K. Leung said. "This beach clean-up operation will take several weeks to complete as tides continue to bring debris ashore."

In addition to beach clean-ups, city staff responded to several calls for tree-related incidents, including two fallen trees that had to be removed.
