Swift Water Rescue Called Off in Costa Mesa, Fire Department Says

A swift water rescue reported to the Costa Mesa Fire Department was "unfounded," CMFD said.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The Costa Mesa Fire Department called off the search for a victim in the Santa Ana River channel, saying the call was "unfounded," according to CMFD public information officer Capt. Chris Coates.

"All units have cleared the area," Coates said over Twitter. "Stay safe in the rain."

CMFD initially responded to calls of a person in the water near Adams Avenue and the Santa Ana River Thursday.

"Units were on scene at multiple bridges," Costa Mesa Fire Department public information officer Capt. Chris Coates said. CMFD remained in place at Victoria Street, Adams Avenue, Warner, Talbert/West MacArthur bridges, searching for a victim in the water who was not found.

Costa Mesa Fire Department initially reported the incident at just before 1 p.m. over Twitter.
