Teenage Girl Struck, Killed By Truck In Newport Beach

The driver of a pickup truck was arrested after hitting and killing a teenage pedestrian on the Balboa Peninsula Saturday, authorities said.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A man was arrested after striking and killing a teenage pedestrian with his truck on the Balboa Peninsula Saturday night, authorities said.

The victim was a 14-year-old girl, the Newport Beach Police Department reported.

The crash was reported around 6:45 p.m. about a block from the Balboa Fun Zone. Police shut down eastbound Balboa Street at westbound Palm Street.

According to a NBPD, alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.

The driver was identified as Joseph Alcazar, 30, of Fontana. He remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of homicide and cruelty to a child, police said.
