Thousands Flood the Streets of Newport for the 11th OC Marathon

Ivan Medina of Hayward won the men's competition and Bonnie Keating of San Diego led the women.

Ivan Medina of Hayward was the men’s winner in today’s 11th annual OC Marathon, while Bonnie Keating of San Diego was the women’s winner in the race from Newport Beach to Costa Mesa.

The 29-year-old Medina completed the 26-mile, 385-yard course in two hours, 30 minutes, 21 seconds. Michael Wysocki of Temecula was second in 2:33:32 and Lupe Cabada of Reno, Nevada third in 2:35:12.

Keating, 30, was timed in 2:47:31. McKale Davis of Scottsdale, Arizona was second in 2:58:23 and Carla McAlister of San Clemente third in 2:58:54. No other woman completed the race in under three hours.

The race began in front of the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa, then went through Corona del Mar and the Newport Harbor area.

The course continued through Costa Mesa, passed the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, went around the South Coast Plaza and through Segerstrom High School.

The runners then ran one mile in Santa Ana, then turned onto the Santa Ana River Trail for 1.5 miles, exiting at the Gisler foot bridge to run through the Mesa Verde neighborhoods and then the “Bird Streets.” The race ended at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa.
