Thursday Surf Report

Some sizeable St. Paddy's Day surf out there!

Good Thursday morning, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Newport Beach Patch surf report.  Well, now's the time to get out there and grab some of the action.  Yep, we're seeing plenty of modest size surf on tap today!!

It's mostly clean early on, with a mixture of energy out there.  We've got mainly west-northwest and northwest swells and not much southerly energy to speak of.

That recipe is making for some fast semi-walled lines with plenty of steep makeable shoulders to be had.  Most spots in Newport Beach are pulling waist- to shoulder-high waves, with the standout breaks seeing some head-high plus sets.

At 8:01 this morning the tide climbs way up to a 5.7 high which will have many spots along this stretch of sand pretty full and inconsistent throughout the morning.  The tide then drains out to a negative 0.8 low at 2:37 this afternoon.

If you're going to get wet, throw on at least a 3/2 full or better yet a 4/3 and maybe the booties, with the water temp hanging between 56 and 58 degrees.  Have fun out there!!
