Newport Beach City Council members awarded a roughly $4 million contract for the construction of the trash-gathering receptacle.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Newport Beach City Council members awarded a roughly $4 million contract for the construction of a new trash wheel in the city's bay, the Daily Pilot reported.

The solar-powered receptacle is designed to snare trash that floats freely in Newport Beach waters, the report said.

Council members awarded the contract to Jilk Heavy Construction at their Tuesday, July 11 meeting.
