If you were thinking about heading to the southside of the Huntington Beach Pier for a surf session in the next few days, you'll have to find another spot to paddle out.
Dozens of surfers from around the world have taken over the popular stretch for the annual Vans Pier Classic surf competition which runs through Sunday.
The Association of Surfing Professionals event was always a 2-star contest, but has been upgraded to an ASP 4-star competition this year and that has some big names showing up to compete. They include ASP World Tour surfers Damien Hobgood from Florida, Carlsbad's Taylor Knox, Josh Kerr from Australia and Brazil's Adriano de Souza. Some of the up and coming standouts from Orange County who'll be competing are San Clemente's Kolohe Andino, Newport Beach's Andrew Doheny and Luke Davis from Capistrano Beach.
