Waste Management Employee Receives a NWRA Driver of the Year Award

Driver Jesus Santos wins award for outstanding customer service and safety record

Waste Management of Orange County announced today that long-time Irvine, California driver Jesus Santos was named this year’s Large Residential Driver of the Year by the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA).

Santos, a 27-year veteran at Waste Management, was recognized nationally for his outstanding ability to maintain positive relationships with families on his Orange County route while remaining accident free since 2002.

“We could not be more proud of Jesus and the superior customer service skills he brings to work with him daily,” said Tom Koutroulis, district manager for Waste Management of Orange County. “He is an extremely hard-working man who loves what he does and this award reveals just how much the community appreciates his efforts.”

This year the NWRA received more than 1,000 nominations for the Driver of the Year award from across the nation, including 297 from Waste Management. Santos was one of 10 Drivers of the Year awarded at this year’s WasteExpo held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is not the first time Santos has been recognized nationally. He appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2003 after appreciative customers contacted the show’s producers.
