Watch: Fishing Report, Late-Summer Tuna Bite Still On
Calico bass and surf fish are providing good action too.
The San Diego offshore scene remained very productive for boats on day-and-a-half trips and better.
Yellowtail, bluefin, yellowfin tuna, dorado and more treated anglers to some great end-of-summer fishing. The one-day scene was more hit-and-miss. While there were some great scores, there were also some very poor fishing trips.
Coastal Cleanup day was a huge success. People came from near and far to help clean up beaches, rocks and other areas along our coast. Many fishermen also came out to do their part in the cleanup. Larry Moore from Westminster picked up trash around the rocks near Pierpoint Landing and said, “It’s great to be of help, and the whole landing is involved too.”

There are still lots of market squid in the Santa Monica Bay. The Tradition out of Redondo Sportfishing had very good calico bass fishing, along with excellent rockfish.
Surf fishing remains good from San Clemente to the Santa Monica Bay. Barred perch, corbina, a few halibut, leopard sharks, spotfin croaker and other species continue to provide good action. The key is 6-pound test, with sand crabs working well.
