Water Safe In Huntington Beach After Shark 'Bumps' Teen

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA -- Officials labeled the waters of Huntington Beach safe Saturday after a 14-year-old boy was bumped, but not hurt, by a shark the previous day about 25 feet offshore.
The incident occurred about 8 p.m. Friday in about four feet of water, said Lt. Claude Panis of the Huntington Beach Fire Department's Marine Safety Division.
The beach was closed by 10 p.m. Friday, Panis said.

The area where the incident occurred was re-inspected about 10 a.m. by a search and rescue vessel and a police helicopter surveyed the area prior to placing warning signs around that same time.
The search turned up no signs of any sharks and the warning signs were taken down about 12:15 p.m., he said.
