Wave Check: Friday

There's plenty of energy, but the conditions are looking a little sloppy!

Waking up with the waves on Friday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Corona del Mar Patch surf report.  Well, if you don't mind some lump and bump or even chop on the water, then it might be worth paddling out there.  Yep, there's a good dose of energy, but those conditions are a bit messed up thanks to the variable west northwest wind.

As far as the surf goes, we're seeing a good blend of energy in the water.  It's mainly made up of some west northwest and northwest swells and some southerly energy in the background.

That recipe is providing some crumbly disorganized lines, with maybe a few workable corners.  Most spots in Newport Beach are seeing chest-to head-high waves, with the focal points pulling overhead-plus sets.

At 7:16 a.m the tide dropped to a 0.3 low which will have many breaks needing water mid-morning.  The tide then climbs back up to a 2.8 high at 2:00 p.m.

If you're going to grab a session, break out at least a 3/2 fullsuit and maybe the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 57 and 58 degrees.  Good luck out there!!

FYI, the County Health Department urges surfers and swimmers to stay out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after a rain due to the likelihood of increased bacteria levels especially near river mouths, storm drains and harbor entrances.
