Firefighters Rescue Woman, Cat From Burning Newport Apartment

Emergency responders discovered a woman on the balcony, trapped, during this fourth-story apartment fire.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA —Firefighters responded to this Newport Beach apartment building overnight, rescuing a woman and her cat from the 4th floor.

"A woman was rescued and transported to a nearby trauma center," a Newport Beach Fire Department spokesperson said. She had suffered smoke inhalation, cuts and minor burns, according to reports from the scene.

NBC4 reported the victim was standing on her balcony, nude, at the time of the rescue.

Firefighters saved both the woman and her cat from the blaze, they said.
