Woman Drives Car Into Newport Beach Waters In Possible DUI Crash
An unidentified woman drove her vehicle off of a dock and into the water in Newport Beach Friday evening.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A woman was arrested Friday evening after she reportedly drove her vehicle off of a dock and into the ocean in Newport Beach, authorities said.
The incident was reported at around 7:50 p.m. near a park on Via Genoa Road in Newport Beach.
According to authorities, a woman in her late 40s drove her vehicle through a children's playground and off a nearby dock, plunging into the water below.

The woman remained trapped inside of her vehicle while bystanders and assisting lifeguards worked to rescue her.
“I turned around and got a piece of the pipe from the railing and I just bashed both of the windows in. From there someone was able to open the trunk and once they were able to open the trunk they had her out,” one of the rescuers, Jehu Jogwe, told CBS LA.

Newport Beach police confirmed that the woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Her vehicle was removed from the water and towed at the scene, and she is due in court at a later date, authorities said. The case is currently being investigated by the Newport Beach Police Department.
No other injuries were reported and no further information was readily available.
