Wrong-Way Driver Killed In Fiery Toll Road Crash

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A wrong-way driver died Sunday night in a fiery crash with another car in Newport Beach, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash was reported at 9:30 p.m. on the southbound Highway 73 toll road near MacArthur Boulevard in Newport Beach, authorities said.

Authorities said witnesses reported the wrong-way driver driving at a high rate of speed before crashing into a BMW head-on.

Burned wreckage was scattered across several lanes of the toll road, NBC Los Angeles reported.

The BMW driver was hospitalized while the wrong-way driver died at the scene, according to the CHP.
