1 Killed In 4-Car, Fiery Wreck On The 5 Freeway
The accident, which included a Sheriff's Department vehicle carrying two deputies and two inmates, was near Hollywood Freeway connector.

SUN VALLEY, CA – A disabled car triggered a fiery four-vehicle crash Friday on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley that that killed one person and left several others hurt, including occupants of a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department cruiser, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 3:10 a.m. where the Golden State meets the Hollywood (170) Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig, who said one person died at the scene.
The accident prompted the closure of all southbound lanes on the 5 as well as the transition road to the 170, resulting in a miles-long traffic backup and the issuance of a SigAlert.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a car with apparent tire problems stopped, and other vehicles crashed into it, including the sheriff's department vehicle occupied by two deputies who were transporting two inmates, according to the CHP and the Sheriff's Information Bureau.
The fatality was not an occupant of the sheriff's vehicle, the CHP reported, but information was not immediately available on the victim's gender or identity.

The inmates were treated for non-life-threatening cuts from shattered glass, according to broadcast reports.
Two lanes of the 5 Freeway were reopened about 10 a.m., and crews continued their efforts to clear the scene.
