The Jamboree features nearly 50 world-class family history and genealogy speakers. They will present nearly 100 classes on a variety of topics to help and inspire novice family historians as well as advanced and professional genealogists. “You don’t need to be a genealogist or a family historian to attend Jamboree,” said Paula Hinkel, co-chair of the Jamboree. “Lots of people say they’ll explore their family history ‘someday.’ Don’t put it off any longer. Start now, today, while family members can share their memories. Jamboree will give you get you started on the right foot.” Jamboree Chair Hinkel pointed out, “Attendees will get a peek behind the scenes of the popular family history television show, "Who Do You Think You Are?" Alexandra Orton, Producer and Research Manager for “WDYTYA?” is the featured speaker Friday. Other team members involved in “WDYTYA?” now in production for TLC cable channel, also will attend. Author Lisa Louise Cooke, producer and host of Genealogy Gems Podcast, will moderate a question-and-answer segment. “Attendees will go away with a better understanding of how to find their ancestors after hearing from well-known genealogists,” said Hinkel. The Genealogy Jamboree is produced by the Southern California Genealogical Society (SCGS). Organized in 1964, SCGS fosters interest in family history and genealogy, preservation of genealogical materials, and instruction in effective research techniques.
