After 24 Hours, 21,000 DWP Customers Remain Powerless

Crews worked throughout the day to restore power to areas hard hit by the winds including Hollywood.

Utility crews worked today to restore electrical service to thousands of customers that lost power during a weekend storm that brought high winds and heavy rain to the Southland.

As of 8 p.m., about 21,647 Department of Water & Power customers were without power, a department official said. The communities most affected included Historic South-Central, Exposition Park, East Hollywood, Harvard Heights, South Park, Larchmont and Wilmington.

About 71,562 DWP customers have had their power restored since the storm began Sunday.

Scores of Southern California Edison customers also lost power. As of midday, about 28,500 customers throughout SCE’s Southern California service area were without power, most of them in Los Angeles and Orange counties, according to the utility.
