LOS ANGELES, CA — the Griffith Observatory was evacuated Saturday for the second time in less than a week — this time for a suspicious package.
The LAPD Bomb squad wass on the scene, and thousands are being evacuated from the popular tourist attraction. Ultimately, investigators determined the item was not a threat.
"We are treating it as if it's something, hoping that it's not, and we'll be there for a while till they figure it out," Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Officer Mike Lopez said at the time of the evacuation.

It's been a challenging week at the Griffith Observatory. On Tuesday a small wildfire broke out dangerously close to it, forcing an emergency evacuation. While crews quickly got the blaze under control, officials had to keep the observatory closed on Wednesday as crews monitored hot spots and investigated the cause of the fire.
