Brush Fire Burns Near 210 Freeway

LOS ANGELES, CA —Two firefighters were injured battling a three- acre brush fire in Shadow Hills Monday afternoon that was only extinguished after crews from five agencies fought the flames for about five hours.

The blaze was reported around 3:10 p.m. near the 8300 block of West La Tuna Canyon Road, about a half-mile south of the Foothill (210) Freeway and showed an early potential for triple-digit acreage to burn, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The LAFD, assisted by county, Glendale and Angeles National Forest crews and personnel from the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, halted the fire's spread about 4:10 p.m., with no structure damage reported. A knock down was called at 8 p.m.

The fire was initially reported to have charred five acres, but was held to three acres, Humphrey said.

Two LAFD firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries while battling the flames. One returned to duty on-scene and the other was taken to a hospital in unknown condition for further evaluation, Humphrey said.

La Tuna Canyon Road, which was closed to traffic south of the Foothill Freeway has reopened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
