Carjacking Suspects Crash After Victim Uses Cellphone to Track Them

Two carjacking suspects are in critical condition after the car crashed. The car's owner lead police to them by tracking the stolen phone.

Two carjacking suspects were hospitalized in critical condition after a new luxury vehicle they stole crashed into a tree in Pasadena early today, police said. The thieves took the vehicle, and the owner’s wallet and smart phone, at gunpoint from the 4500 block of Willow Brook Avenue in East Hollywood around 2:30 a.m., said Los Angeles police Sgt. Melvin Gamble.

Gamble said the owner was able to track his 2015 BMW by computer through the location of his smart phone.

Police agencies were then notified of the vehicle’s whereabouts, and an LAPD helicopter also tracked it, Gamble said.
